From brick-based takes on the iconic Ectomobile to minifigure builds tied to the toys-to-life video game fad, one of the most beloved LEGO releases remains the 4,634-piece Ghostbusters Firehouse Headquarters. However, with the set long retired and aftermarket prices enough to scare even the most seasoned collectors, a more compact and display-friendly version could serve as the perfect alternative.
In today’s feature, we’re highlighting a build by Ghostbusters fan Rossco311, who recently took to the LEGO subreddit to showcase a scaled-down version of the firehouse. Describing the original set as a “white whale,” explaining that both its size and price kept it out of reach, Rossco wanted something that could display comfortably alongside their LEGO Ecto-1, while serving as a more manageable build.
Despite its smaller footprint, the custom build includes everything you’d expect. The interior features a rearranged but familiar layout with ground-floor lockers, an area for the Ecto-Containment Unit, a lab, and even sleeping quarters. On the outside, the structure retains its signature red-and-gray brickwork, a rooftop water tower, an American flag, and of course, the classic No-Ghost sign.
Comprised of 1,120 pieces, Rossco set out to keep the total cost as low as possible, ultimately completing the build for around $175. They also packed in plenty of play features, including a firepole, working trap, opening drawers, and a hinged design that allows the set to open and close for both display and accessibility. For those looking to recreate the build themselves, plans are available now via Rebrickable.
