Driveable LEGO big builds welcomed to Miami drivers’ parade
The Formula 1 drivers’ parade took a creative twist at the Miami Grand Prix on Sunday, as all 20 drivers swapped the usual parade truck for fully drivable, life-sized LEGO cars. Each team had a custom-built vehicle in their official colors and livery, allowing the drivers to lap the 5.4km circuit while greeting fans before the race.
These eye-catching vehicles are inspired by the LEGO Speed Champions F1 range launched late last year and celebrate the ongoing partnership between Formula 1 and the LEGO Group. Built at LEGO’s Kladno factory in the Czech Republic, the project involved 26 designers, engineers, and builders working over 22,000 hours to bring the concept to life.
Each near full-scale car is made of around 400,000 LEGO bricks, weighs approximately 1,000kg, and can reach speeds of 20kph. The builds faithfully replicate real F1 cars down to the finest details—including sponsor logos and authentic Pirelli tires.
Emily Prazer, Formula 1’s Chief Commercial Officer, said: “As a sport that thrives on innovation, it was incredible to see our drivers take to the track in something as unique as the LEGO big builds. Our collaboration with the LEGO Group continues to bring fresh excitement to the Grand Prix experience.”
Julia Goldin, Chief Product & Marketing Officer at the LEGO Group, added: “This project is a powerful example of what’s possible when creativity meets collaboration. Seeing all 10 drivable big builds unveiled at once was a truly thrilling moment. With LEGO bricks and imagination, the possibilities are endless.”
